I’m not joking when I say there are at least 3 moments in Civil War that RDJ’s performance just floors me
His scene with Charles Spencer’s mother at the MIT hallway in the beginning of the film, his reaction and the way you can see how much that guilt cuts into him so deeply
His scene with Natasha after Ross gives him that 36 hours deadline and you see Tony rubbing his chest area like he’s in pain and you see his fear and concern - you see how much this whole thing pains him and how he just wants everyone to be safe and out of harm’s way
And finally the scene that just kicks everyone in the stomach - when Tony finds out about Bucky killing his parents, his reaction to watching that video, watching his parents die, watching Bucky punching his father to death, his hand wrapped around his mother’s neck and choking her - you see his heart break bit by bit, you see his devastation at learning that Steve knew and never told him, that he had to find out by seeing a video first hand
Honestly, this is RDJ’s best and most powerful performance in the MCU since Iron Man - the emotional level he went to, the way his eyes told Tony’s pain, fear, loss, anger, and concern - it proves there is a reason RDJ is RDJ, that sheer acting talent is on full blast delivering the emotions in this film.
Still Marvel’s MVP.
